How to read the heavy metal report. 
Each heavy metal report is based on USGS readings from soil samples taken from within the county at different points.
The minimum and maximum are the low and high readings from all the samples taken and the mean is the average.
 
The symbol represents the periodic table symbol of the particular metal and in the parentheses is the unit of measure used when  measuring each soil
sample (ppm is parts per million and wt% is weight as a percentage of the whole). There is no set standard of how many soil samples are
 taken to soil samples are taken to ascertain the mean, however the mean is a fairly accurate representation of the particular county’s metal content. 
 
Please note, these are soil samples only and do not reflect the metals in aerosol form found in air pollution, 
nor is this a report of water samples, which is yet another source of heavy metals.
